He is a member of the editorial board of the AHA journal Hypertension, the Journal of Hypertension, one of only two Australians to be on the leading American and European journals in the firld of hypertension.įostering Clinical Research Training and Career Development Professor Cameron is regularly invited to speak on arterial structure, function and cardiovascular risk at international meetings. Papers published in the previous six years have been cited more than 450 times (average number of citations per paper > 13). Professor Cameron is author or co-author of over 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications, five invited book chapters, as well as numerous invited editorials and commentaries in high-impact journals. Currently he is Vice-President of The International Society for Vascular Health (ISVH) and Chairman of the Australasian Regional Committee of the ISVH. In 2004 he was co-recipient of the 2004 RJ Hall prize of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and was admitted to Fellowship of CSANZ in 2006. Current research interests include non-invasive assessment of arterial mechanical properties as they relate to cardiovascular risk and clinical management, with a particular interest in assessment of arterial stiffness in relation to vascular health and biological ageing and the potential for therapeutic intervention. His early work provided some of the first evidence that arterial function is modifiable and therefore a potential therapeutic target. Professor Cameron is internationally known for his work on large, conduit artery function and mechanics, in particular in the development of assessment techniques to investigate mechanisms of arterial disease, the role of arterial stiffness in risk-assessment and its use in identification of pre-clinical states. He continues in that role currently and maintains senior medical staff appointment with MonashHeart and in the private sector at Epworth Health Care with the Epworth HospitalCheck unit. In 2012 research activities were concentrated at MonashHeart where Professor Cameron remains Director of the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre and, in 2014, assumed the position of Associate Director of MonashHeart.
In the same year he was appointed to a chair in biomedical engineering at La Trobe University. In 2007 he was appointed to the position of Associate Director (Research & Education) of MonashHeart and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Monash University. Subsequently, as Associate Professor at both La Trobe University (Biomedical Engineering) and (honorary) in the Department of Medicine, Monash University, he accepted a senior medical staff appointment at Southern Health (the largest government health network in the state of Victoria) and re-located clinical research activities to both the Department of Vascular Sciences and Medicine as Director of Research and Training, and to MonashHeart (the Cardiology service of Southern Health). From 1992-2001 he was Senior Lecturer (Biomedical Engineering) at La Trobe University and Senior Clinical Associate at The Baker Heart Research Institute. James Cameron completed undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Medicine at Melbourne University before going on to post-graduate research degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Medicine. Cameron MBBS, MD, BE(Elec), MEngSc, FIEAust., CPE(Biomed), FCSANZ The director had some big changes in mind for the hero, the greatest of which might have been the film's R-rating for violence, profanity, and sexuality.Ĭameron's "Spider-Man" would've been a far cry from the friendly neighborhood hero that fans have come to expect on the big screen, and though none of his scripts were officially approved, he had a pretty clear vision for the film before plans eventually fell through.Professor James D. His reverence for the character prompted the development of his own Spider-Man movie, one that would have predated director Sam Raimi's 2002 take on Peter Parker. "To me, there were all the superheroes and then there was Spider-Man," Cameron told Collider back in 2014. The hero is a cherished childhood favorite for many, including James Cameron, the director behind massive blockbusters like the "Terminator" films, "Titanic," and "Avatar." "Spider-Man: No Way Home" will be the webslinger's eighth film, and one that will culminate the efforts of the two iterations that came before current Spidey, played by Tom Holland. Spider-Man is easily one of the most iconic superheroes out there - and he's certainly the most revisited one.
